With just one call, Andrea Turcalo learns that the baby elephant has been separated from her mother. He is learning to interact with the elephants with his sonic device and can even recognize the calls of some families.

The work she is doing is incredible. She’s is opening the language of another species to us! In a way never done before. It definitely proves the high level of intelligence elephants have, plus so much more. Their care and compassion for others, their abilities to communicate over long distances to other groups of elephants to both warn them of incoming dangers like human hunters moving towards them as well as tell others of food or water bounties found and such. This is much like us phoning family and friends who live a distance from us.

They are able to comfort each other, as shown with the elephants all being concerned about the baby last and comforting the baby.
