Several people died in a jeep crash during a Christmas rally in Waukeshin, Wisconsin on Sunday, a local police chief said.

Waukeshi Police Chief Daniel Thompson said “several” had died, but police did not provide details on how many , the ages or names as police are currently working on reaching families.

More than 20 people were injured, but the exact number is unknown.

Waukesha fire chief Stephen Howard said his staff took 11 adults and 12 children to the district hospital, but it is unclear how many were taken away.

Thompson said the suspect’s car has been found, the suspect is in custody and an investigation is ongoing.

“The scene is now safe and secure,” he said. Waukesha is located 31 miles west of Milwaukee.
