Akhal-Teke was developed for durability and speed. Some riders consider the breed to be very rare and narrow, with a conformation different from the most common muscle tensions and deep chest travel. Others consider it an elegant work of art in appearance and passage. No matter what you think, Akhal-Teke is one of the world’s rarest and most successful horse breeds, of which only 3,500.
Famous as the “heavenly horse,” the horse is so full of light that it looks like a glow, and they say there are only 3,500 of them.
The apparent good shine of their body and flowing mane came from a unique blend of protein in their hair. The assembly causes the light to reflect from a surface that shines like a diamond in the sun.
Their shiny blond fur looks almost alive as they move, making them look like they gallop from the pages of a fantasy novel. While each horse is beautiful in its own way, the Akhal-Teke hypnotic spell is unforgettable.
There is more than 350 horses in the world, but few holds the name of a national symbol. Akhal-Teke is so much appreciated in his home country that the President of Turkmenistan decided to call him a symbol of “surprising harmony, grace and incomparable speed”.
Most of us will probably never have the privilege of seeing one of these lovely horses, but thankfully, there are many pictures of them in the internet which let us witness the beauty the horses holds.
