In a video guaranteed to make you say, “aww,” a dog gets adopted from an animal shelter.

In the video, a big-eyed beagle, Suzie, sits behind glass in a cage at an animal shelter. While other dogs get adopted, countless people walk by Suzie, barely glancing at the forlorn dog. Then, Suzie catches someone’s eye — a little girl’s.

The little girl bends down, crouches and places her hand against the glass of Suzie’s cage as if to say, “hello.” Suzie does the same. In that moment, the little girl must know that Suzie is the dog for her because in the next scene, Suzie and the girl are cuddling in front of a fireplace at the little girl’s house.

Based on statistics from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Suzie is one of the lucky ones — of the 7.2 million cats and dogs who end up in shelters annually, 2.7 million are euthanized.

Instead of leaving animals to be euthanized, the Helping Hands Humane Society suggests that people who are financially able should, among other things, adopt to save animal lives, break the cycle of pet overpopulation and support their local communities.
