Our regular readers are probably well aware that we love a good French bulldog video, and this next clip is one for the books.
Much like Captain the Pug, who gets audibly excited every time he takes a trip to PetSmart, the little cutie in the video below is a chatty puppy. A French bulldognamed Alice is really adamant about getting up on the couch, and her tiny legs aren’t long enough for Alice to jump up on her own. Being a pup, it’s easy to imagine she’s not yet fully trained about begging and where she is or isn’t allowed to sit. But her “yelling” at her dad to let her up is one of the strangest things I’ve ever heard, and it’s difficult not to crack a smile.
Now any dog owners will probably tell you their dogs “talk” to them, too. They’re nottechnically wrong. The Scientific American interviewed psychologist and dog expert Stanley Coren of the University of British Columbia about that very thing: “What’s happening between dog and owner-turned-voice-coach is fairly straightforward, Coren says: Owner hears the dog making a sound that resembles a phrase, says the phrase back to the dog, who then repeats the sound and is rewarded with a treat,” says the Scientific American. “Eventually the dog learns a modified version of her original sound.” So there you have it. Talking puppies for all!
